Frequently Asked Questions

Does Final Detail Painting serve Sanibel and Captiva?

Yes, we may be available for painting projects on Sanibel and Captiva depending on the location, project scope, scheduling, and access requirements. Because island projects can involve additional travel and logistical considerations, we recommend contacting us with the property address and a brief description of the work so we can confirm current availability.

Does salt air require special preparation?

Yes. Coastal properties can develop salt deposits and other surface contamination that may interfere with paint adhesion. When those conditions are present, we make sure the surface is properly cleaned and prepared before applying new coatings. The exact preparation depends on the condition and material of the surface.

Can exterior paint stop moisture damage?

No. Exterior paint can help protect properly prepared surfaces from normal weather exposure, but it cannot correct active water intrusion, leaks, rot, or building-envelope problems. If we identify signs of an underlying moisture issue, that problem should be addressed before painting so the new coating is not being applied over a condition that will continue to cause damage.

Can a project be completed while I am away?

Potentially, yes. We can discuss arrangements for completing work while a homeowner is away, which can be especially helpful for seasonal residents. Before the project begins, we will need to establish property access, communication methods, who has authority to make decisions, security considerations, and how the completed work will be reviewed.

Do elevated homes cost more to paint?

They can. Elevated homes often require more time and equipment because of additional height, stairs, railings, difficult access points, and the need to protect surrounding areas. These factors can increase labor and project complexity, so we evaluate the actual property rather than assuming that every elevated home will be priced the same way.

How often should an island exterior be repainted?

We do not recommend relying on a universal repainting schedule. Coastal homes can experience very different conditions depending on sun exposure, salt exposure, moisture, previous surface preparation, coating quality, color choice, substrate condition, and ongoing maintenance.

Instead, we recommend evaluating the condition of the actual home. Fading, chalking, peeling, cracking, exposed substrate, failing caulk, or other visible deterioration can all indicate that it is time to consider repainting. A well-maintained exterior may remain serviceable longer than one exposed to harsher conditions, even when the homes are located only a short distance apart.
